HIV/AIDS and development in the Pacific

January 1, 2007

Background to the Abstract

Papua New Guinea is facing a rapidly expanding public health crisis that challenges not only politicians but also business, religious, medical, media, legal and civil leaders to find an appropriate response. The other 21 countries and territories in the South Pacific are not immune from what is happening in Papua New Guinea. While the number of HIV infections may seem low, annual infection rates are on the rise.
